Santos Tour Down Under

The Tour Down Under opens professional cycling's WorldTour each January, bringing the world's top teams to Adelaide and its surrounding ranges for about eight days of racing. Stages roll through the Adelaide Hills, Barossa and McLaren Vale, with the Willunga Hill climb the race's traditional decider.

What to expect

Roadside spectating is free, and whole towns turn out for stage starts and finishes; cumulative attendance is estimated around 750,000. The event doubles as a mass-participation festival, with thousands riding the official challenge routes ahead of the professionals. January in South Australia is hot, so the racing starts early and the crowds pack the shade.
