Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the world's great pride celebrations and one of Sydney's biggest annual events. The festival runs from mid-February with Fair Day, theatre, parties and community events across the city, building to the famous parade up Oxford Street on the first Saturday of March.

What to expect

Around 300,000 spectators line the parade route to watch the floats, marching groups and costumes that have defined the event since 1978. Viewing spots along Oxford and Flinders streets fill hours ahead, and the party continues well into the night across Darlinghurst and Surry Hills.
