Sydney Marathon
The Sydney Marathon is Australia's biggest marathon and one of the World Marathon Majors, joining the ranks of Boston, London and Tokyo. The course runs from North Sydney across the Harbour Bridge, through the eastern city and around to a finish beside the Opera House, with around 35,000 runners taking part.
What to expect
Race morning shuts down large parts of the city, and the bridge crossing in the early kilometres is one of distance running's great sights. Spectating is easy along the city sections, and the Opera House finish precinct builds a genuine big-race atmosphere. Entries are balloted and demand has surged since Majors status.
