Ten days in March, odd-numbered years
Ten Days on the Island is Tasmania's statewide arts festival, held in March of odd-numbered years. Its defining idea is geographic: rather than concentrating in Hobart, the program deliberately spreads theatre, music, visual art and community projects into towns and venues across the whole island, from the north-west coast to the Huon.
Around 50,000 people attend across the ten days. For visitors it doubles as a designed itinerary, stringing the state's regions together with premieres and site-specific works you could not see anywhere else. It is Tasmania's own festival in the most literal sense: the island is the venue.
