Dark Mofo

Dark Mofo is Hobart's midwinter festival of art, music, fire and feasting, staged by Mona around the June solstice. For about two weeks the city glows red: large-scale installations occupy the waterfront, experimental music fills churches and warehouses, the Winter Feast lays long tables under smoke and flame, and the nude solstice swim closes proceedings at dawn.

What to expect

Around 280,000 attendances have made it Tasmania's defining winter event and the reason Hobart's coldest fortnight became its busiest. The program courts the gothic and the confronting by design. Book accommodation months out; the city fills completely.
