Australian Open (tennis)
The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the tennis year and the biggest annual sporting event in the country, filling Melbourne Park for a fortnight in mid-to-late January. Attendance has passed a million, the largest of any tennis major, with three roofed arenas guaranteeing play through Melbourne's summer swings.
What to expect
A ground pass in the first week is one of the best-value tickets in world sport: dozens of matches, the practice courts and the festival grounds for less than the price of a stadium seat. The second week belongs to the show courts and the night sessions, when Rod Laver Arena is at its best.
