Hobart to Launceston is the spine of the Tasmanian coach network: 200 kilometres along the Midland Highway, taking around 2 hours 30 minutes. Tassielink Transit and Kinetic Tasmania (formerly Redline) both run multiple daily services between Hobart and Launceston, with stops at Brighton, Oatlands, Campbell Town and Perth (Tasmania, not WA). The corridor is the only practical way to traverse Tasmania north-south by public transport.

Travel tips
What to know before you go.
Tassielink and Kinetic timetables don't fully overlap; check both before booking. Kinetic tends to be slightly cheaper; Tassielink usually has the most frequent timetable. Window seats on either side give you Tasmania's central plateau views; the highway crosses some of the highest sustained terrain in the state. If you are continuing onwards to Cradle Mountain, Strahan or the East Coast, plan the connection at Launceston carefully; onward services run only once or twice daily from there. Book at least three days ahead during the Targa Tasmania rally (April) and the Falls Festival (December–January) when the corridor fills.
