Targa Tasmania
Targa Tasmania is the world's premier tarmac rally, run over six days each April on closed public roads across the island. Since 1992 the event has sent fields of classic and modern performance cars around a 2,000 kilometre course with hundreds of kilometres of competitive stages, from Launceston's hinterland through the west coast ranges to Hobart.
What to expect
Stage-side spectating is free, and the event's route makes a moving festival of the state's driving roads: hairpins at Cethana, forest runs on the west coast, coastal sweeps in the south. Fans plan their days around the published stage times, and the overnight towns fill with rally traffic and tall stories.
