Travel tips
What to know before you go.
The Indian Pacific train is the most practical overland option. It departs Adelaide weekly and reaches Perth approximately 65 hours later, with meals and sleeping berths included. For a self-drive road trip, budget 3 to 4 days of driving and carry spare fuel and water beyond Ceduna, where services become scarce on the Nullarbor. Flying is the fastest option, with multiple daily flights taking around 3 hours. If the crossing itself is the appeal, multi day tag-along and small-group outback tours also run the Nullarbor along the Eyre Highway, stopping at the Great Australian Bight and the roadhouses that punctuate the route.
