National Folk Festival

Easter long weekend (5 days)

The National Folk Festival is Australia's premier folk gathering, held at Exhibition Park in Canberra every Easter long weekend since settling in the capital in 1992. Across five days, hundreds of acts play a dozen venues, backed by dance halls, instrument makers, workshops and the session bars where the festival's real hours are logged.

Around 45,000 attendances and a big on-site camping population give it a village feel. The program spans traditional and contemporary folk, Celtic, bluegrass and world strands, with a strong participatory culture: many come to play as much as to listen. Autumn in Canberra means warm days and cold festival nights.
