Floriade
Floriade is Australia's biggest celebration of spring: around a million blooms laid out in themed garden beds across Commonwealth Park on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin, for about 30 days from mid-September. Tulips are the signature, backed by massed annuals, horticultural displays, markets and entertainment through the month.
What to expect
Entry is free, and around 500,000 people visit across the run. NightFest, the festival's after-dark program, lights the gardens for several evenings of illuminated displays and music. Canberra's spring can serve all seasons in a week, and the beds change as the month progresses; mid-festival usually hits peak bloom.
