Darwin Cup Carnival
The Darwin Cup Carnival runs through July's dry season at Fannie Bay, building to Cup Day on the first Monday of August, a public holiday in Darwin. The eight-race carnival is the biggest event on the Territory's racing calendar, and Cup Day draws around 20,000 people in full tropical race-day dress.
What to expect
Darwin does carnival racing its own way: barefoot-friendly lawns, fashion in 30-degree winter sun and an atmosphere closer to festival than formality. The course sits ten minutes from the city, and the whole town treats the long weekend as its midwinter celebration.
