Parrtjima - A Festival in Light
Parrtjima is the only authentic Aboriginal festival of light of its kind, staged over ten nights each April at the Alice Springs Desert Park. Large-scale installations project Arrernte art and stories onto the MacDonnell Ranges, using two kilometres of ancient range as the canvas, with a grounds program of talks, music and workshops.
What to expect
The festival is free, curated with Arrernte custodians, and drew more than 20,000 attendances at recent editions. April nights in Central Australia are clear and cool, made for being outdoors after dark. It is the rare light festival where the landscape itself, some of the oldest on earth, is the point.
