Meredith Music Festival

Second weekend of December (3 days)

Meredith Music Festival is a cult institution: three days each December in a natural amphitheatre on a farm between Geelong and Ballarat, capped at about 13,000 people. One stage, no clashes, no sponsor branding and a fiercely protected culture summarised by its golden rule: don't be a dickhead.

Founded in 1991, it books an eclectic bill across rock, electronic, soul and the unclassifiable, and the crowd trusts the curation sight unseen. Tickets are allocated by ballot and sell out instantly. Everyone camps; the Supernatural Amphitheatre's couches, gumboots and the Meredith Gift foot race are all part of the liturgy.
