Cooly Rocks On
Five days in early-to-mid June
Cooly Rocks On is Australia's largest nostalgia festival: five days each June when Coolangatta and Tweed Heads turn back the clock to the 1950s and 60s. Around 1,000 classic cars and hot rods line the beachfront show'n'shine, while rock'n'roll and rockabilly bands play free street stages and dance floors fill with swing and jive.
Around 100,000 people come for the chrome, the quiffs and the frocks, and the whole beachfront program is free to wander. Dance workshops, markets and retro fashion round it out. June on the southern Gold Coast is sunny and mild, made for a festival that lives outdoors.
