Bendigo Easter Festival

The Bendigo Easter Festival has run since 1871, which makes it one of the oldest continuing festivals in Australia. Across the Easter weekend the city centre fills with markets, music and family events, building to the Gala Parade led by Sun Loong's successor Dai Gum Loong, the longest imperial dragon in the world.

What to expect

The dragon tradition comes from Bendigo's Chinese community, whose goldfields history is woven through the city, and the Chinese precinct's museum is worth the visit in its own right. Around 100,000 people attend, everything in the street program is free, and Easter Sunday's parade is the centrepiece.
