The Barossa Vintage Festival is Australia's longest-running wine festival, held since 1947 to mark the end of the grape harvest. Across about five days in late April of odd-numbered years, the valley's towns host parades, long lunches, cellar events, music and the traditional ceremonies of a community built on six generations of winemaking.
Around 40,000 people join a festival that belongs first to the Barossa's own families, which is exactly its appeal: it is a working wine region celebrating its own harvest, not a show staged for visitors. Tanunda, Angaston and Nuriootpa carry the main program, with Anzac Day usually falling within the window.
