About this route
The Geelong–Devonport corridor.
Geelong to Devonport is the Bass Strait crossing itself, the stretch of sea between the Victorian mainland and Tasmania's north coast. It is covered by the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, which sails from its Geelong terminal at Corio Quay to the Devonport terminal, carrying foot passengers and vehicles on day and overnight services. There is no coach, because the route is entirely over water. AusBus is a coach comparison site and does not sell ferry tickets; you book the sailing with Spirit of Tasmania. What AusBus can do is line up the coach connections that feed the Geelong terminal and carry on from Devonport into the rest of Tasmania.
Travel tips
What to know before you go.
Vehicle spaces and cabins are the first things to sell out, so book early for summer, school holidays and long weekends; foot passengers have more room to be flexible. Build in time to reach the Geelong terminal before check in closes, and if you are continuing by coach from Devonport, confirm those times before you sail, since the ferry and the coach are separate bookings.
