The Discovery Pass is the only AU pass that covers both regional trains and coaches under one product. It works differently from Whimit-style passes: you book each leg individually, and the pass replaces the fare. That makes it more flexible than consecutive-day Whimit passes, but you still need to book each leg ahead.
Only $43 less than the 1-month, which gives you twice the validity. Skip this tier and pick the 1-month instead.

When it saves money
When the Discovery Pass is worth it.
The 1-month Discovery at $275 is the standout value tier: only $43 more than the 14-day, with twice the validity window. It is the right pass if your itinerary stays mostly within NSW, dips into the Victorian or Queensland border, or includes both a coach leg (e.g. Sydney→Canberra) and a train leg (e.g. Sydney→Melbourne XPT). The 3-month at $298 is also strong value if you are planning a longer working-holiday window.
When to skip it
When this pass is not worth it.
The 14-day Discovery at $232 is poor value: spending an extra $43 unlocks the 1-month and an extra two weeks of validity. If your itinerary is east-coast-wide rather than NSW-anchored (Melbourne to Cairns), Greyhound East Coast Whimit will cover the same journeys plus the QLD coast for less. If you only need one or two specific trips, individual tickets are still cheaper.
Better alternatives
If this pass is not the right fit.
NSW + VIC + QLD + ACT travel that includes Cairns: Greyhound East Coast Whimit. Cross-country travel beyond the NSW TrainLink network: Greyhound National Whimit. South coast NSW (Sydney↔Eden) only: Premier's Value Pass for that corridor at $101 (6 months) is far cheaper.
